Transitions planning and coronavirus – where to start

As soon as coronavirus put the country into lockdown, normal transition planning processes were up in the air.

What can already feel like a stressful time for many families just went up a notch, with planning still to take place and no clear steer as to what the future could hold.

If your young person is due to finish school this June, we’ve identified the key things you need to be thinking about – complete with a “to do” list and links to good sources of information. You can download it here.

Don’t put yourself under too much pressure to get everything done by the summer. If things fall into place that’s great, but for some families the best approach might be to plan a year out to explore options and get the right support in place. Moving on is a process, not a one-off event.

Most importantly, don’t panic. Try to focus on what your young person wants to do and what’s right for them.

Coronavirus may have turned the world upside down, but it’s also brought the chance to do things differently and in a way that works for you and your family – so take things at a pace that suits you and your young person.  Remember your own mental health is important, so stay safe and stay positive!
