Putting Empathy at the Heart of Support Work – Training

Putting Empathy at the Heart of Support Work

Alexander Warren of AJP Dreams has been working with support from Gillian Allan from Edinburgh Development Group to research and develop empathy training for support workers. Using their direct research with support workers and considering the research of others, EDG and ALP Dreams have developed a one day training course to support and enhance a culture of empathy in your organisation.

They create an empathic and non-judgemental atmosphere in their training which involves:

  • role play
  • art
  • personal reflection
  • interactive exercises

With the aim of increasing understanding of:

  • empathy and what it is
  • overcoming barriers to empathy
  • how to engage in self-care
  • the importance of listening
  • the link between empathy and supporting service users to live their dreams

You can find out more about the research behind the training at: www.empathyinsupportwork.co.uk

If you are interested in attending this training, or for it to be delivered ‘in house’ for your organisation, please contact rebecca.williams@arcuk.org.uk
